John Kohn, a Norfolk police rookie, recently died following a training incident. John and I had been out of touch for a few years, but knew each other in the Navy and while I was in college. He was a wonderful guy and a talented musician. The enclosed/linked song below, recorded on a shoestring for an Old Dominion University student film, features John on drums. I hope you’ll take a moment to listen to him play.
Thanks for posting this. I was his girlfriend about the time this would have been recorded (maybe a little before). Would it be too much trouble to have you email this file to me? I’d love to be able to have some of his performances, but God only knows where those old tapes have gotten to!
John helped me get a great deal on my TAMA Star Classics a few years ago while he worked at ALPHA. In fact, he delivered them to my house since my car was full of my old set and there wasn’t room for them.
He came over a second time to help me take them from stands to rails (just because he wanted to).
I considered him a friend and was shocked to hear about his death. It’s been 2 to 3 years since I last saw him. I just sort of figured I’d see him again someday but not like this. John was a righteous dude and my prayers go out for his family.
